Richard C. Lanning, M.D.

Emeritus

After nearly 40 years of providing world-class retinal care for the citizens of Central Pennsylvania, Dr. Richard C. Lanning retired from Pennsylvania Retina Specialists in 2015.

Dr. Lanning hails from western Pennsylvania and completed his undergraduate degree from Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA.  He went on to the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, NY to complete his medical degree.  His internal medicine internship and ophthalmology residency were completed at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center in New York, NY.  He then moved to Philadelphia, PA to undergo his vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital.  Dr. Lanning then joined Dr. Thomas R. Pheasant in 1982 in Camp Hill PA, and helped grow the practice into today’s renowned Pennsylvania Retina Specialists.

Throughout Dr. Lanning’s distinguished career, he was an active member of Ophthalmology and Retinal Societies at the local, state and national levels.  He also provided both training in retinal surgery to physicians and retinal care to underserved populations across the globe.

Dr. Lanning and his wife Kate have retired to Utah, where they enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren in the Wasatch Mountains.
